THE organised gang wreaking havoc on the county’s phone system struck in the south of the county over the weekend. Over 1,500 metres of phone lines were removed between Carick-on-Suir and Kilmoganny.

On Saturday night the copper Ariel telephone cables were cut down and stolen from beside the main road in the Tullahought area of the county near Kearn’s Bridge. A total of three cables extending for over 500 metres apiece were taken and damage was done to some of the poles they hung from.

Last week the Kilkenny People reported on the theft of copper based phone lines in the north of the county around Clogh. At the time of going to print Eircom crews are in the process of restoring service to the affected area after phone lines and alarm systems were put out of action.
