A YOUNG woman was subjected to a horrifying ordeal when a man jumped into her car and threatened to kill her.
The female driver was exiting the car park opposite St Mary’s cathedral when a man approached her as she stopped at the barrier.
The woman had returned to her car and was leaving the car park when a man jumped into the car and according to the victim, threatened to kill her and tried to steal money.
She refused to do so and the man left the scene. A few moments later, when the woman was on her way to the garda station to report the incident, she saw the man.
The victim’s mother said: “She was in the city at one of the car parks barriers and a man jumped into her car and started to threaten to kill her unless she drove off with him in the car. Fortunately for her she kept her wits about her and although she was screaming at him, crying and very shaken up she managed to make him leave the car.
“Apparently he grabbed her wallet on exiting the car but she managed to hit him whilst screaming at him and grabbed it back. She said the man calmly walked away and she saw him just strolling down the street when she was looking for the garda station,” she said.
“People need to be warned because someone else might not be able to deter this man and who knows what might have happened to my daughter if she hadn’t have reacted the way she did,” she added. The young woman was physically unharmed in the ordeal and has since returned to work.
Gardai have confirmed that they are investigating an incident at the carpark at 3pm on Friday where a man allegedly jumped into a car and attempted to steal a wallet. Anyone with information is asked to contact Kilkenny Gardai at 056 777 5000.
