A wedding on the luckiest day of the year

At least one lucky couple tied the knot in Kilkenny City yesterday (12/12/12) – a day which is supposed to bring boundless good fortune and a lifetime of happiness.

Arkadhi and Alla Arlukovs from Riga celebrated their wedding in Langton House Hotel on December 12. Feng Shui and many branches of mysticism hold that marrying on ‘repetitive’ dates such as 12/12/12 guarantees good fortune and a life of contentment together.

This resulted in a large number of weddings organised for Wednesday.

The Office of the General Registrar processed 72 notices to marry on the day. To give some perspective, only 19 civil ceremonies took place the previous Wednesday.

The next similar symmetrical date is not until January 1 in the year 2101 – almost 90 years away.

Congratulations to Akadhi and best wishes to Alla on their special day.
