Danesfort GAA have organised a ‘Substance Awareness Presentation’ in Danesfort Community Centre taking place this Saturday, May 4 at 7pm.
It will be presented by John Leahy of the HSE and is highly recommended for boys and girls aged 14 to 21 years-plus, for parents/guardians of all age groups, for teachers, mentors, coaches and club officials. The club has asked that the mentors of 14-year-old boys/girls, u-16-boys/girls, minor boys/girls notify parents and guardians of the presentation.
Mentors of the junior boys/girls should notify players and ask them to invite their parents also. This event is free and open to anyone from within or outside the Parish.
It’s part of a new campaign in which the HSE and GAA have joined forces to play an active role in preventing the abuse of alcohol and drugs by young teenagers and adults in this country. Substance abuse has reached crisis point and is evident in all social areas of our daily lives.
The Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Programme aims to reduce and prevent the harm being caused by alcohol and drugs by developing a structure of people throughout the country with specific roles at community, club, county and provincial levels.
