Council nuclear plant fears

Kilkenny County Council will ask the Irish Government to relay its concerns over the planned construction of a new nuclear power station on the west coast of England.

Cllr Malcolm Noonan brought forward a motion to do so at last week’s meeting of the county council. It was seconded by Cllr Tomas Breathnach and received support from all parties. Their concerns over Hinkley Point Nuclear Power Station are due to its proximity to the Irish Coast, and fact that the Irish Sea is already one of the most radioactive seas in the world.
