Over 250 residents and friends from Newpark Close celebrated forty years as a community at a special celebration in Langtons.

Present and past residents were joined by family and friends for the social evening.

Chairman of Kilkenny County Council and Deputy Mayor Cllr Joe Reidy also attended the ruby anniversary celebrations.

The gala dinner, hosted by the chair of the resident’s committee Margaret Leahy, was an outstanding success.

In a passionate address Ms. Leahy, a founder member, welcomed all and recalled some of the highlights over the years. She recalled the great changes that occurred in the estate beginning with the replacement of the flat roofs and the alterations to the heating systems. Another major improvement saw the provision of front and rear gardens with boundary walls. For the first time this allowed the residents a modicum of privacy.

MC Sheila Donnelly, project manager of the Family Resource Centre, thanked all who had served on the resident’s committee throughout the years. She said that it was their dedication and leadership which allowed Newpark Close blossom into the shining beacon it is today. She had particular praise and appreciation for the residents who had consistently supported the various activities in the Family Resource Centre. She concluded by congratulating the Ruby Anniversary group who organized the event and hoping to see everyone in ten years at the golden jubilee celebration.
