Up to 20 people were involved in a riot where missiles were thrown at gardai in the Wetlands area of the city.
Last night at 11.30 pm gardai from Kilkenny were called to the area to a report of fires being lit. The public roadway was blocked by fires on their arrival and missiles were thrown at gardai by a group of approximately 20 people causing damage to the patrol car.
With the assistance of Gardai from Castlecomer, Thomastown and the Regional Response Unit, gardai restored order allowing Kilkenny Fire Brigade access to quench the fires.
No arrests were made and Gardai are continuing to investigate the matter.
Earlier in the day gardai assisted the county council in the seizure of horses in the Wetlands area of the city. During the course of the operation there were a number of public order incidents as unsuccessful attempts were made to thwart the operation. 8 horses in total were seized.
