Realignment works are set to take place on the N78 Julianstown/Damerstown road. The council has secured e750,000 in funding to upgrade the road and it is expected that works will begin before the end of the year.

There are two parcels of land that the council is in negotiation with farmers to secure. Three landowners have entered into negotiations and the council are hopeful that an agreement can be reached allowing the works to proceed.

Cllr John Brennan (Fine Gael) said “I’m delighted to see this proposed. It will ensure that Kilkenny has an excellent national road network.”

Cllr Maurice Shorthall (Labour) also welcomed that scheme. He said that all the land owners in the area will welcome this scheme as it is badly needed. Fianna Fail Cllr Sean Treacy asked that the council be gentle with the farmers, who he said are very attached to their land.
