THE Graignamanagh St Patrick’s day parade this year is planning a surprise involving the river.

The parade organiser Micheal Carey has revealed that plans are under way to treat the residents of Graignamanagh to a special event involving the river this year but details as to what will happen of top secret.

Mr Carey said that the parade will go ahead this year at 12pm on March 17. The parade will start on Borris Street and make its way through Graignamanagh. The organisers are expecting between 55 and 60 floats from sporting teams, commercial enterprises, organisations and societies in Graignamanagh. The theme for this years parade is colour and there will be nine awards given out. The awards will be for best commercial float, most original float, most topical float, most authentic St Patrick, best sporting group, best vintage float, best window, best walking group and the best overall float.

The parade will be accompanied by three marching bands, the brass band, the Kilkenny City and District Pipe band and the Ballycallan Fife and Drum band.
