Fatal stabbing in Kilkenny city

A YOUNG man has died following a stabbing in Kilkenny during the early hours of this morning.

A YOUNG man has died following a stabbing in Kilkenny during the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí are investigating the fatal assault at Lartchfield Court, Loughboy, across the road from James Stephens GAA Club.

Shortly before 1.30am the gardai received a call to say that a stabbing had occurred in an apartment at the complex. On arrival at the scene two men were discovered with stab wounds and were taken to St Luke’s hospital where one of them died some time later.

He was 21 years of age. The other man 27 years remains in hospital where his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A third man who was in the apartment when Gardaí arrived was arrested and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station where he was detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He is 35 years of age.

A forensics team is at the scene and the man’s body is at the city morgue attached to St Luke’s hospital awaiting transfer to Waterford Regional Hospital.
