After another busy year, Jesters Stage Academy recently staged their 14th annual production in the Watergate Theatre.

Aptly entitled “Miscellaneous Miscellany”, the show presented a diverse mixture of, drama, musical theatre, dance, singing and comedy from a broad repertoire of styles and genres e.g. Robin Hood, Beauty and The Beast, Chicken Little, Queen.

The students, from the youngest to the oldest, were fantastic. The high standard achieved is a

credit to all concerned. The staging was super: lighting, costumes, set, all lending to this very

professional performance.

Jesters aim is to encourage, develop and showcase the talent of its students who range in age

from 4 – 17yrs. It also nurtures self esteem, communication skills and confidence with a very

definite emphasis on doing so in a fun manner and happy environment.

Testament to the importance Jesters holds for these young performers is evident in the

number of years that some of the students attend Jesters. Each year the final show is very

emotional because it is the final curtain for the students who will be doing their Leaving

Certificate the following year and hence not returning. This year was no exception. Ten

students were leaving and congratulated on their commitment, but it was the number of years

they had been attending that struck the audience: Aisling- 14 years, Edel - 13 years,

Jayne – 12years, Clare and Hilary – 11 years, Shauna – 10years, Meabh – 9 yrs, Georgia – 7

years, Hannah – 5 years and Conor – 3years. That’s real dedication and genuine emotion.

An important part of the final show is the awarding of the JJ Doheny Memorial trophies.

They are awarded in recognition of outstanding talent or of particular achievement or to a

student who has contributed to Jesters in a positive or personal way. Recipients this year were

Ms Abigail Bennett {Get Into The Act}, Ms Fiona Nolan, Mr. Ciaran Fennelly, and Mr

Conor Brassil {High Notes and Dance Shoes}.

And next year is a big one for Jesters - 15 years and a big birthday celebration. There are lots of

things planned for this milestone year, one of which will be the forming of a Show Choir

when Jesters resumes in September. Past students, parents past and present and new members

are all invited to join a one of a kind choir to perform everything from Classical to Rock, so

watch this space for more details and please spread the word.
