Wexford Chef, Phelim Byrne, will be inspiring taste buds and home culinary skills in The National Dairy Council Dome at this year’s National Ploughing Championships (25th-27th September) at Heathpark, New Ross, Co. Wexford.
The principal driving the Phelim Byrne Cookery Academy, Professional Catering Service and Séasúir Bar & Bistro in Wexford has won entrepeneurial awards, is a member of Wexford Circle of Chefs and is listed in ‘Ireland’s Best’ in the current 2012 Bridgestone Guide. The free cookery demonstrations aim to share easy cookery ideas for the home, which also showcase the use of Irish milk, yogurt, cheese, butter and cream in some tasty recipe ideas. There will be five cookery demonstrations each day of the National Ploughing Championships at the NDC Dome (Stand No. K 332):
10.30am: Treats with Irish Dairy: Tasty baking and dessert recipes highlighting the versatility of milk and dairy
12.00 noon: Quick Bites: When time is pressurised, there is a real temptation to resort to ‘fast food’. This demonstration features ideas for nutritious meals and snacks which are easy and quick to prepare.
1.30pm: Recipe Tips for Athletes & Sports Enthusiasts: Explores the use of milk in sports nutrition, and demonstrates how this food group can contribute to the diet of athletes and sports enthusiasts at all levels.’
2.45pm: Home Entertaining: Creative ideas for light bites & canapes to tempt your guests
4.15pm: Family Meals: Wholesome, nutritious everyday meals
Visitors to the NDC stand will have the opportunity to meet with some leading sports stars* who are supporting the NDC’s work in promoting the positive role that milk may play in a number of aspects of sports nutrition. Research from Loughborough and Northumbria Universities respectively demonstrates the potential effectiveness of skimmed milk as a re-hydration drink after sports; and the beneficial role milk and milk based products may play in recovery from exercise-induced muscle damage.
National Dairy Council nutritionists will also be available to help with questions in relation to the role of milk and dairy as part of your family’s diet.
The NDC’s role in supporting the national School Milk & Dairy Programme will be celebrated on World School Milk Day, Wednesday 26th September. However information will be available each day of the Ploughing about the School Milk & Dairy Programme as well as the national NDC Milk It Advertising Awards for secondary school students.
PhotoBooth - very popular in particular with teenagers and families - will be returning with a “Say Cheese” photo competition with a chance to win a digital camera each day.
You can also test your soccer skills in an interactive penalty shoot-out zone organised by the NDC to highlight their support for the Football for All programme, in association with the Football Association of Ireland. There is the opportunity each day to win match tickets, sports equipment and sports vouchers.
News of the dairy farmers short listed as national finalists for the 2012 NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards will be available on this stand where farmers can also have the opportunity to meet with NDC staff and Board members in a designated meeting area.
