Three Kilkenny schools received a welcome boost this week, with the announcement that the Department of Education is to allocate additional funding to them for badly-needed building works.
Gowran NS will get money for emergency works, notably roof repairs and the renovation of two classrooms. SN Seamus Naofa, Glenmore, has been allocated funding for the provision of three classrooms, while St Lachtain’s NS, Freshford, has been allocated funding for refurbishment and the provision of an ASD Unit.
Local TD Ann Phelan has confirmed that the three schools received good news.
“This is a very welcome announcement by the Department of Education. It is imperative that the appropriate funds be continuously distributed,” she said.
“Kilkenny has seen a number of allocations as part of the School Buildings Programme this year alone, with Duiske College, Graignamanagh and Colaiste Pobail Osrai, Kilkenny, receiving funding for additional accommodation also. Local employment levels should also receive a boost as part of this announcement, which has the potential to create construction jobs which have been sadly, lacking over the last number of years.”
