Former Kilkenny captain Michael Kelly dies

The death occurred on Wednesday night of Mr Michael Kelly, who captained Kilkenny to victory in the All-Ireland senior hurling final of 1957 against Waterford (4-10 to 3-12). Colleagues on that famous team were former GAA President, Paddy Buggy and the late Ollie Walsh.

Mr Kelly, a member of the Bennettsbridge club, had been ill for some time. He shared in the remarkable run with Bennettsbridge in the sixties when the club won five Kilkenny senior hurling championship titles.
