THERE has been an increase in shoppers and trading for the Christmas sales with Kilkenny bucking the national trending according to Centre Manager at McDonagh Shopping Centre.

Manager, Donie Butler told the Kilkenny People that the sales were ‘absolutely fantastic’.

“River Island and Next had wonderful sales with great reductions. There were six stores whose sales started in the centre on St Strphens Day and they reported that the volume was up and that trading was up. So far we are on average up approximately 10% on last year’s sales figures,” he said.

“The first two weeks in December were very slow but Christmas week saw a huge surge in shoppers with an increase of 23% on last year’s figures. So far footfall is up 3.4% year on year and the national average is down 7%,” he added.

At the Market Cross Shopping Centre Assistant Manager Lesley Cleere said that ‘there was a good increase across the board both in sales and in footfall.”

Meanwhile there were plenty of shoppers out and about in the city hunting for sales bargains. Helen Webster from Jenkinstown was out shopping with her daughters Sharon and Elaine and grand daughter Chloe (14 months). “Next and River Island have some great value,” said Sharon with Elaine adding that Next has some excellent offers on baby clothes.
