A PUBLIC meeting on small schools, to be held at the Lyrath Estate Hotel on March 15 at 8pm, is to be addressed by Nickey Brennan and Helen Carroll.
The topic is one that is close to the heart of Conahy man and former GAA president Nickey Brennan as rural communities have always been seen as the life blood of the GAA. The Kilkenny People columnist is expected to provide insight into the effects of recent regulations on pupil-teacher ratios introduced by the Department of Education and Skills.
Kilkenny city native Helen Carroll, Kilkenny People columnist and Ear to the Ground presenter, will also address the meeting. As well as living in a rural area, Ms Carroll’s work brings her into daily contact with people who are concerned for the future of rural communities.
The Lyrath meeting will also be addressed by Fr Paddy Byrne, an outspoken journalist in Carlow whose views on social and political issues have gained him many admirers over the years.
