Local man Trevor Coady has completed his latest race in his marathon journey – a five-mile race in Dublin earlier this month.

Trevor, from Castle Downs, was chosen to represent Kilkenny in this year’s Dublin City Marathon in the 2012 Spar Spartan Challenge. Trevor completed the Irish Runner 5-mile race in Phoenix Park in a fantastic time of 52 minutes.

The next race that Trevor will take on is the Fingal 10km in Swords on July 22, followed by the Frank Duffy 10-mile race in August.

The 26 marathon novices are being guided in their preparation by fitness guru Karl Henry (Operation Transformation) and nutrition expert Paula Mee. They have also been put through a Chi-running workshop by former Olympian and triple marathon winner Catherina McKiernan.

Those who wish to follow Trevor’s progress, training runs and blog updates can do so via the website www.spartanchallenge.ie or by visiting Spar’s Facebook page. The Spartan ajudged to have most fully embraced all aspects of the challenge will win a trip for two to New York to spectate at the New York City marathon on November 4.

“On behalf of everyone at SPAR I’d like to congratulate Trevor on completing the Irish Runner 5 mile race in such a great time and wish him all the best in the upcoming 10km race,” said Suzanne Weldon, marketing director of BWG Foods.

“At Spar we’ve been successfully promoting leisure running in Ireland over the past number of years through our support for events including the Dublin Marathon, Spar Great Ireland Run and the Join Spar and Ray for 5k initiative. For us it’s a really meaningful approach to sponsorship as people aim to get out and get healthy during these tough economic times.”
