Kilkenny County Council was honoured at the Repak Awards during Repak Recycling Week.
Dunmore recycling and waste disposal centre was one of three shortlisted for Best Recycling Centre, and it received a certificate in recognition of its achievements in its sustainable business practices.
Leas cathaoirleach Maurice Shortall received the certificate on behalf of the council and said it was fitting that the centre be acknowledged by an expert in sector as he considers the friendly customer service to be a unique characteristic of the facility.
“Approximately 30,000 vehicles visit the centre per year, proving its popularity in Kilkenny,” he said. “I myself am a frequent customer and its rural setting and the friendly and helpful staff always makes my visit to the recycling centre less of a chore and more like a trip out the road to meet old friends.”
Director of services Philip O’Neill said the nomination recognised the hard work of the centre’s staff. “Since the closure of the landfill, the centre has undergone expansion to continue to provide appropriate waste management services at competitive prices,” he said. “Receiving a certificate from Repak is a honour and reflects how the centre has continued to explore ways to meet the requirements of the public in relation to waste disposal and recycling.”
