A HAULAGE firm has pleaded guilty to a charge arising from the deaths of two women, one of whom was the wife of Kilkenny hurling star James McGarry.

Vanessa McGarry, a mother of one, was married only months when she died in the crash near Thomastown, Co Kilkenny, in July 2007.

Mother-of-two Mary Lonergan (48) also died when a lorry owned by Nolan Transport shed its load of steel coils.

The lorry collided with the car driven by Mrs McGarry while Mrs Lonergan’s car was struck by the shed load.

Nolan Transport, of New Ross, Co Wexford, yesterday pleaded guilty at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court to failing to secure the load. The matter was adjourned to January 15.

The Polish driver of the lorry, Rafal Luszacki, who was living in New Ross, was fined €1,500 and disqualified for three years.
