On foot of firm interest from owner managers based in Kilkenny, the Kilkenny County Enterprise Board (KCEB) has assisted in the establishment of an Owner Manager Network, which now meets on a monthly basis.
The lunchtime network will enable members to meet other business owners, discuss business topics and provides potential business opportunities. The meetings will be held on the last Wednesday of every month in the Newpark Hotel at 12.30pm.
At the next meeting, which takes place today (Wednesday) in the Newpark Hotel, the guest speaker will be Ann O’ Brien, managing director of Kent Stainless Ltd – recent winners of the overall Irish Exporter of the Year Award 2012 and the Manufacturing Exporter of the Year Award 2012. Kent Stainless Ltd was founded in 1982 as a general steel fabricator.
Ms O’ Brien will speak about how the company has overcome many challenges in recent years, and has experienced remarkable achievements and growth in markets abroad. The company has seen a dramatic increase in turnover in recent years, and this has in fact doubled over the last three years.
The network concept is to provide a forum for small business owner/managers to meet on a regular basis and learn about best practice for running a small business. In conjunction with Carlow County Enterprise Board and Carlow Local Authorities, the KCEB is co-hosting a Connect Networking Event with guest speaker Bill Liao, an Australian entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist and author.
Mr Liao co-founded the business social network service XING and educational programming in technology for young people, Coder Dojo and is a venture partner at SOS Ventures. He is dedicated to the vision that business and enterprise, conducted fairly and with respect for the environment, can and will create a better working environment. Bill will present at the Connect Networking Event on Thursday, March 7 in the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow.
“This KCEB network is open to all County Kilkenny based owner/managers who would like to engage in networking,” said Fiona Deegan, CEO of the KCEB.
“Being an entrepreneur, one can feel isolated and lonely at times; being part of a network provides a support for owner/managers and an opportunity to share knowledge and hear the experiences of other network members and guest speakers.”
