Kilkenny city has been stunned by the death of Cllr Pat Cody, chairman of Enniscorthy Urban District Council (UDC). The 57-year-old passed away yesterday. He moved to Wexford in 1976 and he was a brother of Ger Cody of the Watergate Theatre, Marguerite and Frank Cody. His late brother Joe was a former Mayor of Kilkenny city.

Kilkenny city has been stunned by the death of Cllr Pat Cody, chairman of Enniscorthy Urban District Council (UDC). The 57-year-old passed away yesterday. He moved to Wexford in 1976 and he was a brother of Ger Cody of the Watergate Theatre, Marguerite and Frank Cody. His late brother Joe was a former Mayor of Kilkenny city.

It is just a few weeks ago since he was elected chairman of the UDC having been released from a Dublin hospital earlier that day.

Born in Newpark Kilkenny, his work as a psychiatric nurse, saw him move to Enniscorthy in 1976. During his tenure as a nurse in St. Senan’s, Pat was a vociferous campaigner on behalf of disability rights and the Health service. He was at the forefront in promoting and developing these services in Enniscorthy and the wider Wexford area. Housing, education and jobs are just some of the other issues with which he is synonymous as a Labour party member.

He is survived by his wife Breda; daughter; brothers Frank and Gerry; sister Marguerite. Reposing at Crosbie’s Funeral Home, Enniscorthy from noon today with Removal this evening at 6.30pm to St. Aidan’s Cathedral. Funeral Mass on Saturday at noon.
