One of the most popular second-level schools in the county, Abbey Community College, is to be further extended.
The Government has confirmed that funding is in place for an extension to the VEC school in Ferrybank – an investment which will boost facilities. It is one of 23 schools which will be extended next year.
Local Fine Gael TD John Paul Phelan says the news is a huge boost for the region. He has raised the issue of an extension to Abbey Community College in the Dail on several occasions, and says he was delighted when on Friday, the Department of Education and Science confirmed that an extension would go ahead over the next year.
“This is a very welcome boost for Ferrybank and the surrounding parishes,” he said.
“It is a part of Kilkenny which has grown beyond belief in recent years. Abbey Community College has an excellent reputation in the South Kilkenny and Waterford city area and I am delighted that this investment has been sanctioned.”
