A motion calling for work to be suspended on the controversial Central Access Scheme bridge was heavily defeated at a meeting of Kilkenny County Council this afternoon.
A notice under Section 140 of the Local Government Act 2001 (as amended) was submitted by councillors Breda Gardner (ind), Malcolm Noonan (Green Party) and Kathleen Funchion (Sinn Fein).
A report was presented to the meeting by the executive of Kilkenny County Council by acting CEO John Mulholland and a vote subsequently took place of the elected members present. Cllr David Fitzgerald (Fine Gael) and Cllr Joe Malone (Fianna Fail) were not present and their apologies were recorded in the minutes.
Five councillors Breda Gardner (ind), Malcolm Noonan (Green Party) and Kathleen Funchion (Sinn Fein) and Melissa O’Neill (Sinn Fein) voted in favour of the motion and the remaining 17 public elected representatives, who were present voted against it.
