Chinese ‘twinning’ group to visit Kilkenny in April

A DELEGATION from Huqiu, Suzhou, China is set to visit Kilkenny in April to progress the idea of twinning the two cities.

The group is due to spend four days in Ireland, including one in County Kilkenny, county manager Joe Crockett informed members of Kilkenny Borough Council at their meeting on Monday night.

Members welcomed the news, although Cllr Malcolm Noonan (Greens) suggested that it would be premature to set up another twinning arrangement when it was difficult to maintain the present twinnings that Kilkenny city and county currently have. “Before we initiate any other twinning, we should have a review of how we go about it,” he said.

It was agreed to discuss the matter of twinning at a future council meeting.
