Delayed Dolly sings up a storm
TWENTY thousand Dolly Parton fans braved howling winds and threatening rain to watch their favourite songbird take to the stage at Nowlan Park on a blustery Sunday night.
But fans were left out in the cold for much longer than expected, when the bad weather delayed the diva's entrance by more than an hour.
While the lashing rain, which drenched concert-goers at Dolly's show in Cork the previous night, stayed away, near-gale force winds tore the top off the stage just hours before showtime.
As "8pm sharp" came and went, there were doubts as to whether the show would go ahead at all, but an hour later, under half a roof, the tiny songstress finally appeared.
Reviews for the concert were mixed, with some fans said to be disappointed about the lack of theatrics, costume changes and suspected miming, while others were simply stunned by the little legend of country music.
But music lovers will be revelling in the news that the Nowlan Park concerts, which have become a staple of Kilkenny's summer season, will continue next year.
