Don't protect those responsible for racist attacks in city

THERE were two separate racist incidents in the city on Monday night at the homecoming for the hurlers. It must be stressed that the scum involved used the reception for our four-in-a-row team to wreak havoc.

While a good few started to beat the two unfortunate young lads who are coloured (in separate incidents) others either photographed or videoed the incidents on their mobile phones. Children who came to see their heroes witnessed the assaults and it has left a lasting impression on them.

This is absolutely shocking and is something that has to be stamped out completely. We cannot allow this to fester in the city we all love and if you know anyone who chants racist slogans at anyone, bullies them, beats them or spits at them then you are duty bound to tell the gardai on 056-7722222 .

On the Sunday night of the All Ireland senior final there was a massive row on The Parade. Again it was shocking and a number of people were badly affected by what they saw.

And the trouble in the city on Monday night was even worse. The gardai really do earn their money. With a large number of assaults, some reported, some seen and some not seen, it left a very bad taste in the mouth.

Who is responsible? First of all these thugs are but they don’t really care what people think of them. Secondary, the pubs that served them knowing they were out of their minds are responsible and thirdly, in the case of teenagers, their parents are responsible.

Hard to blame Brian Cody for “Marty Murder”

Hard to blame Brian Cody for losing it with Marty Morrissey in the now world famous interview on RTE television after Kilkenny had just won the four-in-a-row.

However, the comments made by Cody must be taken in context. Just before the “Marty Murder”, Cody was asked on the field of play, live on RTE Radio 1, by another RTE GAA reporter, what his reaction was to Plan B which was the sign placed on the huge screens in Croke Park after Kilkenny fans managed to get on to the pitch. Plan B let stewards know they were to stand back and stop trying to stop people from getting on to the hallowed turf. Cody politely asked what Plan B had to do with Kilkenny senior hurlers winning the match. So you can see why the boss was miffed at RTE and rightly so.

Tommy Walsh’s speech

The most talked about incident after the All Ireland senior hurling final now is the brilliant speech given by Tommy Walsh in Ballyhale on the Tuesday night after the match. He had the crowd in stitches and it is on the YouTube website. So check it out.

Late Liam Farrelly

Nice to see the boys in blue remembering their late colleague, Liam Farrelly in an outing last week at Kilkenny Golf Club. Liam a native of Tipperary was a fine sportsman and is much missed by his colleagues in the garda station.

Obama’s tomb story goes all over the world

The story on Barack Obama’s lost tomb and the history surrounding the discovery of the vault containing the remains on Obama’s sixth generation grand uncle, Bishop John Kearney has been reprinted all over the world. The Boston Globe newspaper was the first paper in the US to use it and then it was used by the ABC network on to its main evening news last week and then it was followed up with a piece on Fox News and after that it went up on every wire service and every internet site and to think that it all started in a small, provincial paper in Ireland.

The Tulla hurlers

If you get a chance, go out and feast your yes on the sculpture commemorating the hurlers of the Freshford area across the road from Tulla Church half way between Kilkenny city and Freshford village. It names all the local hurlers who won senior all Ireland medals with the county from Threecastles, Tulla and Freshford. It really encapsulates all a hurler should be and is in the Pauline Bewick style. Reason I bring it up is because Mayor Malcolm Noonan wants a competition to choose a hurling monument in the city.

Poor Andy C and Dr Tadhg C

Spare a thought for All Ireland winning captain Andy Comerford and Kilkenny team doctor Tadhg Crowley. Andy and a number of other hardy bucks from O’Loughlin Gaels GAA club cycled from the city to Dublin on the eve of the All Ireland senior hurling final for charity. They were on High Nelly bikes and was in aid of the King of the Castle campaign for young Pat Shortis, the saxophone playing smoothie. Andy fell and busted himself and in the same spirit she showed on the field, got up and cycles the rest of the way after getting some treatment from club man and borough council member Joe Malone.

Dr Tadhg from Tralee, Co Kerry did his knee in at the end of the All Ireland senior hurling final when he jumped up in delight at the final whistle, Insider thinks that in both cases its old lads with young lads ideas.

Who in the city employed by The Viper?

Who was the person that got the Viper, and his team of debt collectors to squeeze one of their creditors in the city. Despite a number of calls to the Kilkenny People, we decided that it was not our job to promote The Viper, the veteran criminal with serious links to major gangs. He has survived four assassination attempts and his presence in Kilkenny did strike fear into people.
