Film season for him and her
Tess Felder
THE Kilkenny Film Club’s new season of the kicks off on Tuesday next with the acclaimed Irish documentary His and Hers, in the Set Theatre at 8pm.
The 80-minute film from 2009 by award-winning short-film director Ken Wardrop “combines observation and charm to tell a 90-year-old love story through the voices of 70 women. This intimate gender and cultural snapshot explores a woman’s relationships with the men in her life — father, boyfriend, husband, son. Following sequentially from little girl to old woman, each character portrait is woven with the others into one perfectly crafted cinematic quilt”.
His and Hers won the Audience award in the Dublin International Film Festival, The Feature Award in the Galway Film Fleadh, an IFTA for Best Feature Documentary and the Cinematography Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2010.
Next up in the Kilkenny Film Club lineup is Austrian film The White Ribbon on September 21, followed by Irish/UK film Five Minutes of Heaven on October 5 and French film Seraphine on October 19. German film The Last Station will be shown on November 2, Greek film Dogtooth on November 16, Italian film I Am Love on November 30, and US film Please Give rounding off the season on December 14.
Yearly membership to Kilkenny Film Club, including admission to eight films, is f50.

Membership and tickets will be available at the venue from 7.30pm on the evenings the films are being shown, and the films start at 8pm. Kilkenny Film Club is a non-profit organisation assisted by Access Cinema and sponsored by Langton’s.
