Further time sought to build retirement village in city

A DEVELOPER is seeking to further time for permission to construct a retirement village at the Golf Links Road in Kilkenny city.

Clancy Construction Ltd has applied to Kilkenny County Council for an extension of planning permission regarding the retirement village. The permission was granted in January 2007.

The plans include a 62-bedroom two-storey nursing home, 43 terraced aged/sheltered bungalows and three retirement apartment blocks. Those would consist of a three-storey retirement apartment block with 15 two-bedroom units, a three-storey retirement apartment block with 18 two-bedroom units and a pair of two-bedroom units at third-floor level, and a three-storey retirement apartment block with 16 two-bedroom units, a pair of two-bedroom units at third-floor level and a ground-floor day care centre.

The site is located at Golf Links Road and Newpark Lower in the townland of Northern Part, Kilkenny near De La Salle Place and James Stephens Barracks. Access to the site is off the Golf Links Road.
