Girlfriend tells of violent history with deceased
THE girlfriend of a man who was allegedly fatally stabbed in the heart by his sister told the Central Criminal Court today (Thursday) how she held her boyfriend in her arms before he passed away.
Lisa Peagram told the court that she had went outside 35 Barrack Street after she had received 'a box' from the deceased Michael Brennan.She also told the court that the deceased had been violent and assaulted her a number of times in the past. "I remember being very upset and saying to Caroline Brennan (the accused) that I thought he was going to kill me and Caroline was trying to calm me down. Keith (the accused's boyfriend) stepped out of the door and said 'I promise you Lisa I won't let him get you.Caroline said she would get our bags and coats and that I could stay in her house.
"Michael was shouting at us and I was shouting back. I can't remember going to get my bag. There was a lot of shouting coming from Michael and Caroline was shouting back at him," she said.
Prosecuting barrister Mr John O'Kelly asked Ms Peagram when did she realise something had happened. "At some stage I heard Michael had been stabbed. I saw Michael fall to the ground and I caught him. He was lying in my arms and then someone picked him up and put him on the couch," she added.
Evidence was also given by Peter Timmins and Thomas Timmins, who were at 35 Barrack Street when Michael Brennan was stabbed and by the deceased's brother, Thomas Brennan. Keith Byrne, the accused's boyfriend also gave evidence.
The accused Caroline Brennan has pleaded not guilty to the murder of her brother Michael at 35 Barrack Street, Castlecomer on December 30, 2008. The case which is being heard before a judge and jury at the Central Criminal Court in Waterford is due to continue on Tuesday morning.
