Gowran art group exhibit in Kilkenny - w/e 13.03.09
GOWRAN ST Mary's Art Group from Dalton House will be exhibiting their paintings at Loughboy Library from March 13 to March 27. Drop in and see the fine artistic creations of our local art group.
NEW LITURGY/ SERVERS GROUP - A new liturgy/servers group is being set up for Dungarvan Church. A meeting will be held on Friday March 13 at 8.10pm in Dungarvan hall. All parishioners are very welcome. You may have a child who is interested in serving or is already doing so at the Church ceremonies or you may be interested in discussing ways in which to further enhance the liturgy.
Dungarvan is fortunate to have the services of the accomplished Cloigin sing-ers and musicans whose music always adds a spiritual and uplifting dimension to the church ceremonies. Serving and prospective altar servers, readers, Eucharistic ministers, congregation members and all interested parishoners are all invited to come along to Dungarvan hallon Friday just after 8pm.
YOUNG IRELAND'S GAA LOTTO – There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 6, 9, 10 and 14.
The 5 x f35 winners were Liam Walsh. Dixie Cotrell, Jane Doherty, Pat Lennon and Bernie Quinlan.
Next week's jackpot is for f8,850.
UNDERAGE COACHING - If you want to help with coaching the young players in Young Ireland's Hurling club come along to the 'Fundamentals' Fun Do Demonstration and workshop on March 11. There will also be a foundation coaching course in Nowlan Park on March 14. For further information call 086-6406411.
POKER CLASSIC – A five card poker draw with a guaranteed prize fund of f1,500 will be held on Friday March 20 at 7.30pm sharp in the Black and Whites Clubhouse, Skeoughvos-teen. Tickets are f50 with proceeds in aid of Bridge United Soccer Club, Goresbridge. Come along and support this deserving cause.
PARISH DRAW – The winners in the fifth week of the draw were Thomas Drennan of Clashwilliam, Ann O'Donnell, Blanchville, Catherine Doyle of Watree and Tom Kelleher, St. Mary's Court.
MASS – The grandparents/grandchildren's Mass will be celebrated on March 29 at 11.30am Mass. Grand-parents are invited to accompany their grandchildren to this special liturgy.
ATHLETICS – Training for Gowran Athletic club continues every Monday and Friday at Gowran Parish hall at 6.30pm. With Scanlon Park now re-opened, training will also be held there on Wednes-days from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. If interested come along to any training session. The club did very well at the recent Leinster Indoor championships in Nenagh. The Gowran athletes won four silver and four bronze medals at the second and third days of the championships. John Murphy competing in the boys under 17 age group won two silver medals. He finished an excellent second in the 1,00mts, won his heat in the 800mts and ran a great race to finish second in the final. Mary Ellen Doyle having finished second in her heat in the girls under-16 800mts had a great race to win the silver medal in the final.
Diarmuid Hickey won the fourth silver for the club with a brilliant putt of 14mts 02 centimetres, which was a huge improvement on his personal best in the boys under 16 shot putt.
Ben Treacy competing under-14 won two bronze medals. He finished third in both the 60mts hurdles and shot putt. He also finished fifth in the long jump.
Christine O'Donnell had a great run to win bronze in the girls under-12, 60mts hurdles. Aoife Naddy won the fourth bronze medal for the club with a new personal best of 1m 18cm in the girls under-12 high jump.
Grace O'Donnell finished an excellent fourth in the girls under 12, 60mts hurdles and was 27th in the long jump. Katie Quinlan finished eighth in her heat in 600mts under 12. Tyler Lennon finished eighth in the boys under 12 high jump. In the boys under 13 section, Phillip O'Donnell ran well to finish second in his heat in the 60mts hurdles and he was eighth in the final. He also finished joint ninth place in the high jump. Orla Bric finished sixth in her heat of 60mts under 14. Sean O'Neill finished fourth in his heat of 60mts under 14 and missed a run in the final by one place. Dusan Rabat finished eighth in his heat of the 60mts under-14. Conor O'Carroll ran into fifth place in his heat of boys under 14, 800mts and also finished fifth in the final.
Sinead Naddy finished eighth in the girls under 14 high jump. Fionnuala Quinlan finished eighth in the final of the girls under 15, 60mts hurdles. Kay Drea finished seventh in her 800mts heat and finished tenth in the 1,500mts final. Brian McCormack finished sixth in the heat of the boys under 16, 800mts race and Ben Lahart ran well to finish fifth in the boys under 16, 1,500mts.
Shawn McCormack had a great run to finish third in the 800mts heat for boys under 16 and he did well to finish fifth in the final. Genevieve O'Mahoney finished fourth in the girls under 18 shot putt. Joseph Murphy finished fourth in the under-19 long jump.
The club's senior men's team of Tommy Evans, Niall Sheehan, Pat Kavanagh and Denis Cormack finished fourth in grade B and were ninth overall in the All-Ireland cross country championships held recently in Santry, Dublin. Well done to all of the athletes, trainers and mentors for their great achievements.
