Kilkenny Castle ranked among favourite heritage sites
KILKENNY Castle is rated in the top six 'Favourite Irish Heritage Properties/ Landmarks' in a nation-wide survey commissioned to coincide with Heritage Week.
The castle is tied for fourth place along with the Rock of Cashel and Kilmainham Gaol. Topping the category in first place is Newgrange, followed by Dublin Castle in second place and Christchurch Cathedral in third. The survey was commissioned by Ecclesiastical Insurance Company, a specialist insurer of heritage property, to mark National Heritage Week.
The survey was conducted over a four-week period prior to Heritage Week. It was designed to measure public awareness and knowledge of heritage, aiming to identify the Irish public’s favourite sites and landmarks of historical and cultural importance and to measure views as to the current state of Irish Heritage. In all, 12 questions were put to respondents.
The research was conducted via online and print questionnaires of 200 adults, aged 18 and over, living in Ireland. The survey took place from July 20 to August 20, 2010. Respondents were spread across 23 counties around Ireland, including 38% from Dublin.
