Kilkenny motorcyclist dies on notorious stretch of road
A young Slovakian man, named locally as Milan Mican, died instantly when his motorbike crashed into an SUV at about 11am on Saturday on a notoriously dangerous part of the road between Bagenalstown and Borris in Co Carlow.
It is understood the young man was travelling to work in Borris at the time from his home in Kilkenny. He only owned the motorbike for a number of weeks.
The Garda forensic collision unit is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
Some of his family members are still being contacted.
He had lived in the area for about five years and had made "a huge impression on the community", according to local priest Fr Paddy Byrne.
Fr Byrne was called to the scene of the crash on Saturday and yesterday spoke of the horror he witnessed as he administered the last rites to the victim.
"It's just very, very sad," he said. "It was a scene of devastation and the tragic loss of a young man whose life was very well connected here with the local community has been cut short."
The Bagenalstown parish priest described the man as "full of life". He had worked in the agri-business Keenan Systems of Borris for a number of years and lived in Kilkenny with friends.
