Kilkenny/ Carlow health service staff to be down by 131
The Kilkenny/ Carlow area is losing the equivalent of 131 full-time positions in the health service due to early retirements.
The numbers are set out in a report issued by the Health Service Executive (HSE) South last week, detailing its plans for 2012.
“Outlined below is the number of whole-time equivalent (WTE) staff who are retiring on an area and care group basis from November 2011 to the end of this month,” it says. In all, there are 736 people who have the left HSE in the region since November.
The losses to Carlow/ Kilkenny/ St Luke’s come under the following headings:
Acute Hospitals: 35
Children and Families: 4
Disabilities: 8
Mental Health: 38
Older People: 43
Primary Care: 3
In the HSE South region, there has been a reduction of 2,276 staff since the peak in 2007. There were 1,412 fewer staff at end 2011 than at the start of 2010, and 1,000 staff left last year.
Over 400 are scheduled to depart before the end of the “grace period,” according to the HSE.
“Apart from this overall budget reduction (of €208 million in 2012), a significant challenge for the HSE South in 2012 will be managing the reduction in levels of staff employed arising from the retirements associated with the grace period in February 201,” according to the HSE. “The cumulative impact on staff reductions from this year and previous years will present a significant challenge for the HSE South in delivering services.”
