Kilkenny’s air quality can be tracked online
AN air-monitoring station opened in Kilkenny city last month, and hourly updates of the results are now available online.
Run by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the station continuously monitors levels of traffic-related pollutants nitrogen oxides and ozone. The results are at http://www.epa.ie/whatwedo/monitoring/air/data/kk/.
The Kilkenny Regional Inspectorate of the EPA and the air monitoring station for Kilkenny City were visited by Environment Minister Phil Hogan on Monday. “I am delighted that the EPA has established a new air monitoring station in Kilkenny,” the minister said in a statement. “It means that the people of Kilkenny can now access up-to-date, real-time air quality information, including the hourly air quality index for Kilkenny City on the EPA’s website.”
Added EPA director general Laura Burke: “This station is the latest in the National Air Quality Monitoring Network which we use to assess air quality across the country and ensure levels of pollutants are below the limit values set by the EU to protect health.”
