Kilkenny was coldest in big freeze

IT’S official: Kilkenny was the coldest place in Ireland during this winter’s ‘big freeze’.
Met Eireann has confirmed that the frostiest temperature since 1963 was recorded at Mount Juliet Estate in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny when the mercury dropped to -16.3 on January 7.
Temperatures were at least two degrees below average from mid-December to mid-January, making it the coldest winter in 50 years.
