Man charged with double manslaughter

A PSYCHIATRIC patient at St Luke’s Hospital has been charged with the manslaughter of a husband and wife who were killed in a crash on the Freshford Road last August.

Sean Dillion, Killerig, Co Carlow appeared at Kilkenny Court yesterday (Tuesday) charged with the manslaughter of Tommy and Angela Kenneally of Templemore, Co Tipperary at Troyswood on the Freshford Road on August 24.

Sergeant Con Dooley told the court that he had arrested the defendant at 9.30am at St Luke’s Hospital. “I charged him and cautioned him on both charges and he made no reply after the charges were read out to him,” he siad.

State solicitor Gerry Meaney applied that the defendant be remanded in custidy for one week with consent to bail on the condition that he reside at St Lukes Hospital. The court heard that the defendant is in receipt of disability allowance and is an inpatient at St Luke’s Hospital. Judge David Anderson granted him bail, on his own bond of €500 euro to be lodged to the court, on the condition that he reside at St Luke’s Hospital. He remanded him on bail to appeal at Cloverhill District Court on February 7. Mr Meaney also told the court that the DPP had directed that the trial proceed on indictment.
