Bunting festoon all parts of the newly refurbished estate. There is black and amber everywhere with flags and banners to be seen outside most houses. It's not be chance, a committee which includes Tommy "Tucker" O'Neill, Liam O'Carroll, Bla Leahy and others have been working hard to ensure that there Butts area of the city does not lay claim to having the best supporters.
This year, there is also a massive black and amber flag erected on the back wall of the estate. This was actually a blue and white flag with Aslan written on it which Tommy obtained from Kyteler's inn and reprinted it black and amber with a "5" in the middle of it.
"We are not being presumptuous, we are just hoping they do it and if the lads win Sunday, it will make all the work worthwhile," Tommy said.
"And if they don't win, they still deserve this showing for all the thrills they have given us over the last four years," he said.
"We are talking here about amateur sportsmen who work during the day and train in the evening and all for the pride of the county," Tommy said passionately. "They have no social life for six or seven months and so the least we can do is show them that we appreciate the effort," Tommy said.Ossory Park has been completely rejuvenated under a Department of the Environment scheme administered by Kilkenny City Borough Council. "This was always known as the Bottom Street," Tommy said. The other part of the estate, "The Top street" is currently being renovated. "I'm back in now nearly two years and I wouldn't live anywhere else,"Tommy confided.
He won't be at the match on Sunday because he is working. He will be roasting the pig on the spit in Dempsey's of John Street. "I will of course watch the match and I'll be praying that Henry plays well," he said.
He also has a soft spot for Tommy Walsh of Tullaroan. Tommy's mother is a member of the Lahart family from Tullaroan. "He's great and I think he'll play well on Sunday," Tommy predicted. Let's hope he is right.
