Planned protest on Gowran eviction day

THERE was huge reaction to our story last week on plans by an absentee landlord to evict a family from their home of 34 years in Gowran despite attempts by them to buy the house.

A major demonstration has been planned for the date of the notice to quit given to the family on Wednesday, March 24 at 1.05pm.

Local councillor Ann Phelan has asked that everyone in the community get involved.

“We want to send a message to the company Ironclad, who are trying to evict the McDonough-Kilgour family from their home that it will not be tolerated by us,” a defiant Cllr Phelan said, A totally peaceful protest is planned and already people are getting ready with heir placards and banners.

Clare McDonough, the woman whose family are being turfed out on the street by the private company that now have control of the former Lord Annaly estate will be handing out glasses of home made wine to those who turn up. “We are overcome by the support we have received and we hope that as many of our friends and neighbours turn up on Wednesday to help us get the meassage across to Ironclad and the Annaly Estate,” she said.

Some of the placards planned include: ‘We shall not be moved’; ‘No to Penal Laws in the 21st Century’ and ‘We want to buy the freehold’.
