'Sinbad' was a great success - w/e 06.03.09
GOWRAN THE set has been taken down, the costumes folded away, the lights dimmed, the speakers silenced and the programme put aside for the archive, but the treasured memories of Gowran's wonderful production of Sinbad will remain forever.
It is heartening to see such a vibrant community spirit alive and thriving so manifestly in the ranks of Gowran Pantomime Soc-iety. Parents, children, the production team and stage crew give so generously of their time and efforts to come together, rehearse again and again with gusto and enthusiasm in order to entertain us all with a witty, colourful, funny and lively pantomime every February.
Congratulations are well in order for all of those involved in the production, especially to the wonderful cast of children (over 60 of them) and adults who performed so magnificently on stage.
All of this happened under the trusty watch of a skilful and inspiring director, Andrew O'Leary, ably supported by stalwarts backstage namely, Sean Twomey, Paul O'Donnell, Noreen Murphy, Micheal Moran, Bobby O'Leary, Seppi Lysaght, Gearoid Kennedy and Nathan Cahill.
Efficient stage Manager was Sandra Twomey and the front of house crew were Eileen Byrne, Claire Delaney, Marina O'Shea, Linda Blagriff and Lorraine Dreeling.
Well done to Julie Moorhouse and Jane Kehoe, Siobhan Lawlor and Nora O'Leary for the splendid make-up, to Musical Director Blaise Smith for his melodic and imaginative songs written specially for the pantomime. Blaise was also responsible for the brilliant set. Joe Scriven took care of the lighting and the skilful choreography by Avril Holland allowed the dancers to delight us with their flair and rhythm. PR was ably looked after by Gretta O'Leary and Liam O'Byrne. Canon Dalton kindly gave use of the hall for the rehearsals and performances. A list of generous sponsors also helped to keep the show going with their generosity which is much appreciated. Ten years on and no doubt lots more to come. Well done to you all and thanks for the memories.
SPORTING SUCCESSES - Bill Brennan of Gow-ran's Scoil Mhuire recently took part representing the school in the Cumann na Bunscoileanna hurling competition in Dublin. His team reached the final of the competition, which will be screened on television over Easter. So watch out for our local star.
