It has been confirmed that seven midwives are due to step down at St Luke’s Hospital at the end of this month, but approval has been given for the appointment of 10 new midwives for the hospital, according to Environment Minister Phil Hogan.

Those stepping down at the end of February are among the 3,500 staff across the health service who have applied under the Government’s incentivised retirement scheme.

Minister Hogan said yesterday (Tuesday) that he received a commitment from Health Minister James Reilly that the 10 appointments would be made for St Luke’s.
