Tragic news of death of Nichola Lynas

THE wife of the former Dean of St Canice's Cathedral, Nichola Lynas, has died.

Aged 50, Mrs Lynas (nee Williamson) died in Bermuda, and the news shocked the city of Kilkenny and beyond.

Mr and Mrs Lynas left St Canices last November to go to work in Bermuda, where former dean Norman Lynas was promoted.

Mrs Lynas, a native of Down, was a popular and well-known member of the local community, and worked as a speech and drama teacher in St John of God NS, in Kilkenny and also Castlecomer NS.

An ecumenical memorial service will be held in St Canice’s Cathedral on Sunday August 1 at 3.30pm.

Prior to the memorial service, on July 28 in Hillsborough, Mayor of Kilkenny City Martin Brett and Town Clerk Brian Tyrrell will represent the city of Kilkenny at the funeral service for Mrs Lynas.

Last November, she moved to Bermuda with her husband Norman who was the former Dean of Ossory. They had spent 18 years in Kilkenny.

As a teacher and wife to the former Dean, she touched the lives of so many people. She was a loving mother to Tristian and Adam. Her memory reminds us of a beautiful, zestful lady who enjoyed life.

Sincere sympathy is extended to her husband Norman, her sons Tristian, Adam and her mother Myra.

Dean Norman Lynas was appointed to St Canices in 1991. Immediately the couple made an impact and before they departed for Bermuda, former Mayor Malcom Noonan hosted a Civic Reception in their honour to acknowledge their leading role in Kilkenny life.
