Ireland’s most loved chef, Rachel Allen, will put a sparkle into Christmas with a festive cookery demonstration in the splendid surroundings of Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny on Thursday, December 5th at 8pm.
The event is a fund raiser for Town of Food which stills needs to raise in excess of €160,000 in order to avail of €680,000 grant funding available under the EU Rural Development Programme. Town of Food is a LEADER initiative to promote Kilkenny as a major food destination. Earlier this year Thomastown was selected as the location for Town of Food initiative.
Town of Food is supporting the production and promotion of local, quality food ingredients and is developing a food training centre on a two-acre site to do courses for professional and amateur cookery students from all over Ireland. The site will also be transformed into a vibrant community hub and garden.
This tasty event, in association with Kilkenny Town of Food, is not to be missed and will include a buzzing Christmas market featuring an array of the city and county’s top artisan food producers.
Visitors will pick up valuable Christmas food and party tips as Rachel guides them through festive treats and meals prepared from local ingredients. She will then wander through the atmospheric stalls which will be selling beautifully produced food gifts and treats. After her demonstration, Rachel will be signing copies of her cookery books - “Cake, Everyday Kitchen and Irish family food”.
Some of the food producers taking part in the market will include Knockdrinna Cheese, Goatsbridge Trout Farm, festive ice creams from Cramer’s Grove Ice Cream and local chef Eadaoin Walsh.
There will be a ‘Food Creche’ on the night to keep all your festive food purchases safe and sound until collection at the end of the event!
“Kilkenny has a rich food culture and heritage and Town of Food will put it on the map as the top food destination and learning centre in Ireland. This is our first major fund raiser and we are very excited,” said Mags Morrissey of Town of Food
