North Kilkenny will come alive to the sound of vintage cars and tractors on Sunday next, September 18 as the annual Coon vintage run occurs.
Now in its sixth year the Coon vintage run has picked up a strong following of vintage car and tractor enthusiasts as it works its way on routes across North Kilkenny and Laois.
Proceeds from the annual run go to the development of Coon Village and Castlecomer District Hospital. Registration in Coon village begins at 10.30am with the vintage car and tractor runs starting at 12 noon.
Vintage cars will travel on a route from Coon to Moneenroe, Clogh, the Swan, Abbeyleix, Durrow, Ballyragget, Castlecomer before finally returning to Coon.
The vintage tractors will follow a route from Coon to the Butts, Coolcullen, Coolraheen Cross, Smithstown Cross, Knocknadogue, Dysart Bridge, Castlecomer, the Yellow Road before returning to Coon.
Refreshments will be provided in Coon Hall during the registration and in the Ranchers Return after the run.
It promises to be a wonderful look at some classic motors and tractors and the organisers are keen to welcome more vintage classics to be part of the motor and, ‘tractorcade’.
The Vintage Run committee organisers wish to remember one of the chief organisers of the run, and a driving force in the Coon re-development committee, Seamus Hahessy who sadly passed away in July of this year.
