CSO figures show almost 40% of Kilkenny's population lives in urban area

The CSO office released figures today which shows the country's population distribution and movement from the 2016 census. Results from the census show that Kilkenny's population has increased by almost 4,000 from 2011 to 2016. Our population now stands at 99,232, up from 95,419 in 2011.

Kilkenny in April 2016, 38.7% (38,438 persons) lived in urban areas, with 61.3% (60,794 persons) living in rural areas.

Kilkenny was the fastest growing town in the county, 

Kilkenny, with 26,512 persons, is the largest town in the county. It was also the fastest growing town in percentage terms, experiencing 8.6% population growth between 2011 and 2016.
