It has emerged that the chairman of the Dáil’s public spending watchdog, John McGuinness, has received €61,318 in severance payments since 2011.

It has emerged that the chairman of the Dáil’s public spending watchdog, John McGuinness, has received €61,318 in severance payments since 2011.

These are exactly the same payments received by Alan Shatter TD. Yesterday Deputy Shatter donated €70,000 severance payment as Minister for Justice to the Jack & Jill Foundation.

McGuinness, the Fianna Fail TD for Kilkenny was sacked as Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment with special responsibility for Trade and Commerce in 2009 after nearly two years in the position.

As Chairman of the Dail’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) he receives a further payment of €8,740 per year on top of his salary, expenses and various allowances.
