PLAYING tennis for a good cause was the aim of the evening as the Kilkenny tennis club held a fund-raising charity night at Archersfield on Saturday.

The event, which was in aid of the Autisim Unit at St Canice’s School was a big success with the organisers both grateful and pleased with the proceedings. The generous support of the players helped raise E1,614 in aid of this worthy charity.

As for the winners involved in the tennis tournament, prizes were awarded to Ladies Doubles in Grade C and D. In the latter grade, Sile Moore and Eilis O’Shea combined to take the prize at stake. In Grade C, the winning prize was awarded to Mary Byrne and Suzanne Keating.

In the mixed doubles there were two sections in Grade C. Taking prizes in this grade were Sean Donnelly and Lexi Trait together with P.J. Trait and Dor Keane. There were also two sections in Grade A. Gabriel Nolan and Mary Verling secured the prize in the first of the sections.

There was a fitting conclusion to the distribution of prizes in the final section in the form of a tie, Eoin Maher and Bernie Halpin together with Padraig Doheny together with Eileen Duggan sharing the spoils.
