Brave show as ladies fall to eventual All-Ireland champs

The ladies Junior Foursomes team did Castlecomer golf club proud in Ardee at the weekend, and while they didn’t bring home the All-Ireland title they put up a very good fight before being beaten by eventual champions Carra West.

The ladies Junior Foursomes team did Castlecomer golf club proud in Ardee at the weekend, and while they didn’t bring home the All-Ireland title they put up a very good fight before being beaten by eventual champions Carra West.

The weather could not have been worse as the team teed off on Friday morning. After six holes the matches was all square and the teams were called in due to waterlogged greens. Nearly two hours later the match resumed. In spite of their valiant efforts ’Comer were beaten by Carra West.

Carra drove on and beat Craddockstown in the final on Saturday. The ’Comer group involving Margaret Furlong and colleagues Betty Owens, Theresa Manning, Ita Madigan, Joan Brennan, Eileen Fogarty can be proud of their efforts, as can other members who played their part in earlier rounds, namely Claire Dowling, Betty Byrne, Mary Murphy, Mary Brophy and Kathleen Ryan.

The team manager Emer Foley pulled out all the stops to help bring the team so far. A big thank you was extended to the supporters who travelled to Ardee.

Next weekend is the annual ladies golf outing to Mount Wolseley, organised by vice-Captain Helen Dunne. The draw for tee times is at 10 30am on Saturday with meal to follow the golf.
