COOLER conditions couldn’t deter the Marble City Cyclers (MCC) from going out in force for the club spins over the weekend.
On Saturday the group did a 61km spin heading out to Castlecomer and across to Paulstown, returning to Kilkenny on the Carlow Road. The average speed was 28.5kph, as the group completed the course in just over two hours.
Sunday saw a strong group of nine cyclist cover 108kms. Heading out into a stiff North wind the group made its way towards Castlecomer, continuing on the N78 before turning right onto the N80 and a very welcome tailwind on the way into Carlow.
In Carlow the group tackled the Paris Roubaix-style cobbles/potholes of the high street before making its way back out onto the Carlow Road and homeward bound to Kilkenny. The group averaged 29.8kph, taking three and a half hours to cover the route.
Reminder to all members and non-members that the club is once again back up and running with its very popular beginners’ cycle on Mondays night. Cyclists meet at the Castle Gate at 7pm every Monday and head out for short spins.
Tip of the Week: Pocket your rubbish. There’s a right place to put your food/gel wrappers - it’s back in your pocket. Being on a bike doesn’t give cyclists the right to litter all over the road.
