Great turn out in Captain’s prize

All members are invited to take part on day two. There will be lots of prizes for both weekends, including a prize for the last nine. Times have been allocated to the top players. See club website www.castlecomergolf.ie/results for full list day two which is on Saturday and Sunday.

For day two, the top 30 full members and top three students/juniors from day 1 will be given times 12noon to 1.30pm on July 1. The remainder of participants can play at a time of their choice on Saturday or from 7am Sunday until 11.50am.

The final nine holes must be played on Sunday. Everyone can play in the last nine holes (front 9) from 2pm on Sunday. The top 12 full members play the last 9 holes (front 9) from 18.30 on Sunday.

The presentation of prizes will be made as soon as the final result is known, followed by music by Eddie and Sean Kenny.

The club mixed team which was having a great run of success was defeated by a strong Waterford team last Wednesday. The team, which did the club proud, was Ken Hovendon and Maria Downey, Joan Brennan and Jason Brennan, Victor Smyth and Theresa Manning, Michael Buggy and Ann Ring and Michael Daly and Honoria Fogarty.

Well done to all who represented the club and managers Seamus O’Connor and Noreen Kinsella.

On a positive note, the ladies minor team scored a great victory in Birr against Tullamore. The team, managed by Claire O’Connor and selectors, was Mary Brophy, Noreen Kinsella, Nuala Mahon, Delia O’Donoghue and Joan Coonan. They are through to the semi-finals against Mullingar.

The Boyne team play Enniscorthy on today (Wednesday) with three matches at home and two away. Ladies golf lessons for beginners are starting on Wednesday, July 4 for four weeks. All interested should contact Jacinta Culliton (0851470720) or any committee member. The cost is 40 euro for the first four lessons, payable beforehand or on the first night.

The first round of the club singles matchplay is being played at the moment. The lady Captain’s competition is being held on Tuesday and Saturday, July 10 and 14.
