Flavin is the king after gruelling battle

Keith Flavin from Paulstown boxing club won the Youth 2 Irish All-Ireland final at the weekend after turning in some powerful performances.

Keith boxed Conor McCrink of Carrickmacross in the semi-final on Friday night. He stopped his opponent in the second round after landing some serious shots.

In the final on Saturday night he faced Aidan Metcalfe of Crumlin Dublin. This turned out to ba a really tough fight. Flavin was 4-2 down after the first round. By the end of the second Keith had roared back to level it 4-4.

At the end of the third round it was 8-8. On the countback the Paulstown lad won on a score of 29-25. The Paulstown club trainers were concerned during the contest because Metcalfe was warned consistently for holding and low use of the head

This was Keith Flavin’s second title win this year. Earlier he won the open youths crown.

Keith now travels to Dublin this week for a training camp before travelling to Russia on March 19 for a three week stint to train and compete in a 10 country tournament.

Also on Friday night in the final of Irish novice girls championships, Ciara Dowling also from the Paulstown club scored a great win over Kiev Dollard, Tollerton, winning 16 points to 13 in a brilliant ladies decider. Dowling is one of the Dowling boxing clan from Castlecomer.
